4th of July Boating Parades

Not content with parades on just the land and the street, we have seen over recent years a trend towards boating parades on the lakes or waterways to celebrate the 4th of July.

Many towns and cities have been collectively organizing their own versions of boat parades, coming together to lead a procession of boats all decorated in various versions of red, white, and blue.

Dozens of boats have been able to take part in the celebrations, all celebrating what it means to be American, whilst having a great time on the open water.

It's a fun and fabulous day out for the whole family, some of the boats really showcasing their artist creativity, dressing up in emblems of the American flag, and even playing live music.

In the age of coronavirus and having so many events canceled this year, it's a perfect opportunity for a community-driven event.

It is focused on spirit and togetherness, whilst still maintaining social distancing between households and different family groups.

Boat Cruise and Watching the Fireworks

This has been another fond past time for Americans and the 4th of July celebrations. In many states and cities, there is usually a huge firework display in the evening to mark the end of the festivities.

Every city has a different vibe and party atmosphere. From Miami with superyachts and champagne, to Nantucket for a more wholesome family-friendly setting.

Some boats might have a casual and relaxed approach, others you might have a sit-down dinner with a string quartet. Whatever way you want to celebrate your 4th of July there will be an option available to you and your preferences.

Powerboat Racing

Across the country, on the 4th of July, there is a number of powerboat races or celebrations that can keep the whole family entertained.

In Sarasota, Florida they have recently celebrated their 35th birthday in 2019 with a huge demonstration and races that stretched across the 4th of July weekend.

However, this isn't something that is new to American entertainment. As far back as 1911, over 110 years ago, they have been arranging boating races on the 4th of July for the general public and the sport of motorboat racing.

It adds that extra level of excitement and competition which is synonymous with the spirit and pride of American achievement.

Host your own Boating Celebrations

So now we know all about the history of boating and the 4th of July. Why not think about hosting your own 4th of July celebrations on your own boat?

It's a lot simpler than you might think. You just need to make sure you take care of a few minor details.

First things first, your boat needs to be sparkling clean to receive your guests! Same as tidying your back yard or house for guests coming over, your boat needs to be a hospitable environment for your party-goers.

Take a couple of hours beforehand and get it looking in top shape. Clean your deck and hull and remove any stains or mildew that is attached to the boat.

Once you have done that, it's time to think about decorations! Hang a few streamers and fun bunting to turn it into a proper 4th of July party boat.

It will bring a fun and inviting atmosphere to your vessel and get your guests in the right mood.

A Boating Barbeque

It's also important to think about what will you be feeding your guests. A traditional portable grill or BBQ can easily fit onto most boats safely and comfortably.

When your guests arrive you can fire up the coals and whack a few prime steaks or burgers on it.

Corn on the cob is also great on the BBQ as well as fish such as salmon or cod. Remember to check everyone's dietary requirements so that everyone has enough food.

Bring a cooler for additional condiments and accompaniments such as buns, sauces, and potato salad.

If you are out on the lakes all day then you will need to think about keeping your food cool.

This also goes for drinks and beer. Bring a separate cooler for soft drinks and any alcohol. Make sure everyone has a fun time but also drinks responsibly as they will be on the open water.

Consider pre-mixing a fun themed 4th of July cocktail, that you can serve to your guests when they arrive.

Once all those details are sorted, it's time to take a step back and enjoy your very own 4th of July celebrations on a boat.
